Utah Badlands 2 Day Intensive - May 7-8, 2027

Join us for an action-packed 2-day workshop combining landscape, drone, and astrophotography in the otherworldly Utah Badlands! We'll spend our days chasing epic light across some of our favorite locations including Factory Butte, Bentonite Hills, Long Dong Silver, Moonscape Overlook, and Capitol Reef NP. Before sunrise, we’ll spend time capturing the Milky Way and star-filled skies as the Core rises. In addition, we’ll show you how to get incredible aerial shots with your drone. During our 2 days together you'll learn advanced techniques for all three genres, along with the post-processing skills to bring your images to life. Expect plenty of individual attention with a small group and experienced pro instructors.

Agenda

 We will meet at the The Whispering Sands Motel in Hanksville the evening of May 6th for those arriving early. The workshop will begin at 5am at the Whispering Sands where we will meet and head into our first shooting locations. We will have breaks during the day for those needing rest back at their rooms. We will also have daytime instruction for post processing during our mid day lunch and shooting breaks. We will reconvene after sunset and blue hour, early in the morning when the Milky Way core rises to shoot some of the darkest skies the West has to offer (time TBD).

  • Transportation to/from your home to Hanksville, UT.

  • Lunch and Dinner Meals, Snacks, and Beverages. There is free grab and go breakfast at the hotel for guests.

  • Lodging prior to, or after, workshop begins/ends (May 6th and 8th).

  • Instructor Gratuities.

Gear Needed

  • Drone (if you would like to bring one)

  • DSRL or mirrorless camera capable of a minimum 3200 ISO

  • Fast, wide-angle lens (preferably 2.8 or faster and 24mm or wider)

  • SD Cards

  • Tripod

  • Extra camera batteries

  • Headlamp

  • Warm clothing, outwear and gloves!

  • Comfortable athletic or hiking shoes

  • Water

  • Snacks

 

Endurance Level

 

The Utah badlands has a moderate fitness level and there will be hiking to reach some of our destinations. Please do not attend this workshop if you have strict mobility issues.

 

The Fine Print

 

Due to high demand, all cancelled workshops are subject to a 10% cancellation fee. In the event that weather conditions become inclimate or severe, the workshop will be cancelled, and full refunds will be issued. Cancellations less than 48 hours prior to the event are nonrefundable.
